PRAN NEWSLETTER ISSUE 19: September 2025
Dear PRAN MEMBERS
After a short summer break, we’re delighted to return with more updates! We’re thrilled to give you a first look at an illustration from our Picture This: A Visual Perspective on Poverty and Inequality in the UK project. This project transforms insights on poverty and inequality into powerful illustrations designed as both educational resources and advocacy tools. Through visual storytelling, it makes complex issues more engaging, accessible, memorable, and easy to share with students, educators, policymakers, and the wider public. We’ve had the pleasure of collaborating with the talented Merseyside-based artist Becky Bryson to bring these images to life. All project images are freely available for our members to use and share.
The image above shows a UK map made of purple puzzle pieces with a ribbon stating, “1 in 5 people in the UK live in poverty.” A distressed woman within the map highlights its human impact. Despite being one of the world’s wealthiest nations, 14.4 million people- including 4.2 million children- live in poverty (JRF 2024). Poverty not only harms individuals but also stifles society’s potential. Addressing it is vital for a fairer, more prosperous future- a priority we hope is central to the Labour Conference in Liverpool.
Other Updates
In partnership with Right to Succeed and the St Andrews Community Network, Resolve Poverty is delighted to invite you to join their new Income Maximisation Anti-Poverty Partnership (iMAPP) in the Liverpool City Region.
This partnership provides free, practical advice on income maximisation that is tailored to different sectors and local contexts across the six boroughs of the Liverpool City Region. It builds on the existing regional expertise and anti-poverty frameworks operating across the region, with a view to connect all members in line with three anti-poverty priorities.
The priorities of the Income Maximisation Anti-Poverty Partnership (iMAPP) include:
Income maximisation for families who are struggling financially
Strategic, policy and practical responses to poverty, based on poverty prevention and early intervention
Supporting existing anti-poverty initiatives and the continued empowerment of localities via relevant free guidance and a whole-sector approach
The development of the Income Maximisation Anti-Poverty Partnership (iMAPP)
In recognition of the existing expertise and impactful initiatives operating across the region, the priorities of iMAPP have been developed via multiple methods of collaboration with key experts. Examples of key engagement activities have included:
Facilitating community-led workshops with families who are struggling financially in collaboration with local Councils
Facilitating community-led listening events with attendance from the national Child Poverty Unit, on behalf of the Champs Public Health Collaborative and Sefton Council
Undertaking extensive stakeholder mapping exercises of existing anti-poverty programmes and frameworks
Developing in-depth insights from key, multi-sector leaders across the region via individual meetings and engaging with relevant forums, conferences and events
Next Steps: Network Activities
A series of free network activities will be available to all members. Network activities will be guided by the following aims:
To share tangible, free recommendations and guidance on how to develop practical and strategic anti-poverty initiatives that aim to maximise household incomes
To generate opportunities for best practice sharing on income maximisation and early intervention measures via a cross-sectoral and cross-thematic approach
To establish pathways to network impact for local residents and relevant bodies via an initial programme of locally-led workshops that offer practical advice, tailored to institutional capacity
To extend network impact via a proposed programme of subsequent activities. Outcomes will be tailored to the feedback of members, and will be delivered in partnership with existing cross-sectoral leaders.
Please contact Dr Hannah Haycox, Liverpool City Region’s Network Development Coordinator, to join this initiative.
In Solidarity,
PRAN Team
